Ugly and in Love: The Movie and the Story

Written by James Anderson Brown, Ugly and in Love is a black comedy charting the story of Samuel J. Jarvis, a downbeat loser with an ugly attitude to the world. A professional drinker and verbal analyst of the wrongs around him, Sam fights everything trying to find reason for his existence, leaving him an outcast to society.

Sam's life is turned upside down when he meets Louise Elizabeth Callum, a soft and tender woman who falls for the ideologies and unpredictability that Sam stands for.

Sam is the complete opposite to her in nature, only placed together they both fall hopelessly in love and begin a dark, funny and ultimately tragic journey together.

Ugly and in Love asks the ultimate question; What is true love? And can love really conquer all faced with the expectations and needs society places on all of us?

The feature is due to go into full production in 2011.


Ugly and in Love: The Short

Shot on location in Stourbridge over a three day period and directed by Matt Cusworth, the short is taken from the opening twenty minutes of the feature screenplay. Concentrating on the first meeting of our main characters, Sam and Louise, it focuses on the darkest aspects of the story forming a juxtaposition between the purity of love and the grotesque side of human nature.

The Ugly and in Love short was shot on Digibeta using the Pro-35 with prime lenses and for a budget of under 2k.
